The more we age, the less energy we have, and this is a truly sad reality for all of us. If only we could have as much energy as we had back when we were kids! Can you imagine how much more you could do if you had a way of increasing your base energy levels by only 10% to 20%? That would be great, wouldn’t it?
When you think about it, a lot comes down to how much energy your body has. When you’re full of energy, you’re happier, more productive, horny, focused, sharp and strong.
In fact, everything in your life is better if you have more energy.
That’s why, if you have to put efforts and resources into other things to tune-up one of your body mechanisms, it would be a good idea to start by the very system that maintains your energy levels.
Introducing the mitochondria
The mitochondria are little power plants inside every cell of your body that produce energy. Each cell of your body has thousands of those power-plants inside of them. That’s where it all starts when it comes to your energy and vitality levels. Basically, the mitochondria uses the calories you eat mixed with oxygen with the purpose of turning that mix into fuel that power everything in your body.
Improve your mitochondria functions.
Many factors that mostly result from modern lifestyle reduce the proper functioning of -with a risk of even destroying them- our mitochondria. Those factors are the real causes behind our lack of energy, and consequently, many modern illnesses. There are 4 main areas of focus in which we can easily take action in order to keep our mitochondria as healthy as possible, thus improving our energy levels for the long run.
1 – Fight against oxidative stress
When the mitochondria do their work ,they also create a by-product called free-radicals. Those free-radicals become toxic to our body if they are not taken care of properly. They can cause damage to other cells all over the place and even your DNA. This phenomenon is called the oxidative stress. This situation, if not managed properly, can reduce your capacity to produce more energy on the short term and even end up killing you in the long run.
Of course, our body has some antioxidant mechanisms that clean those free-radicals before they can create too much damage. Those mechanisms require a good amount of micro-nutrients, such as vitamin C, zinc, manganese, selenium, copper and many more in order to work efficiently. Moreover, your body needs a constant intake of antioxidant foods to facilitate that cleaning process.
Unfortunately, modern diets, for reasons outside the scoop of this article, even with their rich caloric contents, are deprived of micro-nutrients and are far from providing enough antioxidants.
- Take a high quality multi-vitamin supplement with each meal, and add more vitamin C on top of that.
- Increase your consumption of colorful vegetables and fruits, such as blueberries, purple grapes broccoli, kale, collard greens, sweet potato, carrot, and also try focusing on drinking some green tea on top of those. Usually, the richer the colour, the more antioxidant it contains.
2 – Build a stronger mitochondria membrane
The mitochondria are enveloped inside a protective membrane. The quality of this membrane is crucial in order to keep it strong, healthy and alive. Science showed that if you don’t eat enough Omega-3 fats, you will not be able to build a flexible and strong membrane, which, in turn, will greatly weaken your mitochondria. Unfortunately, most people suffer from Omega-3 fatty acid deficiency.
- Eat more fresh fish, omega-3 eggs and use Omega-3 supplements; 2 grams with each meal.
3 – Grow more of it
Following a stressor that requires a lot of energy, your body will react by increasing the production of new mitochondria inside your cells. The way to produce this effect is to do exercise with high intensity. Sports that involve running, strength training, HIIT cardio will all increase the number of those power plants operating in your body.
- Hit the gym with intensity.
4 – Take supporting supplements for an extra boost.
Fats are converted into energy by being transported into the mitochondria by the amino carnitine. ALCAR, which is also a very powerful antioxidant, will ensure that you maintain high levels of carnitine, allowing your mitochondria to produce energy efficiently from fat. 500mg twice a day will greatly boost those processes and more.
Alpha-lipoc acid (R-ALA)
Scientific studies have found that R-ALA, which is another very powerful antioxidant, was able to promote the regeneration and prevention of damage resulting from aging mitochondria. Keeping high energy levels for each cells of your body will inevitably result in maximising your overall energy levels, making you happier and stronger against most degenerative diseases. Naturally, you could achieve that by having a perfect organic diet, rich in colourful fruits, vegetables, herbs and nuts of all kinds, with a good portion of wild game or fish; top these by an active lifestyle. Unfortunately, this can be quite challenging to achieve for some people.
