Building muscle is not rocket science like many people on the net want you to believe. You do not need to endlessly buy some miraculous supplement in order to succeed doing this, but you need to follow some core principles.
A good program, done with intensity.
First, you need to get yourself a good program based on core-compounded exercises such as Bench Press, Squat, and Deadlift. There are many good programs out there, you can get some on Amazon too, but make sure to read the reviews because a lot of them are designed by steroid user and will not work well if you do not take steroids. Anyway, just make sure the foundations of the program are the big core-compounded movements.
Now that you have the program, you need to understand something. Your body does not want to grow bigger muscle.
Yeah, that is right; your body prefers the status quo.
Your body likes homeostasis, to keep things in a stable condition.
Building muscle is a big and expensive job for your body and he is only going to do it if he has no other choice.
Your body must think that if he does not grow, you will certainly die.

Last week I had an accident, I cut two of my fingers with my badass Pilipino war machete, yeah I know, stupid, you can laugh, anyway, it was pretty bad and I had to go to the hospital for some stitches. I did not lose them, but it was close.
On my way to the hospital, I wasn’t thinking about the pain or the blood leaking all around, I was thinking: Fuck, how I’m going to train the next 2 weeks without one of my hands. Shit! That sucks!
It turned out I did a lot of abs…
However, my point is: I am so damn focused, committed and disciplined about it that what pissed me the most was, that because of this stupid accident, I had to lose 2 weeks of badass muscle building workout.
Just like building a business, building muscle needs focus.
- Short-term intense focus, while you do the actual movement.
- Long-term disciplined focus, on your program.
I’m going on vacation to another city? Cool, I’m going to try a new gym!
It’s Christmas vacation? Cool, all this food will surcharge my training.
Shure taking a short break could be a good thing that would help recovery, but it would break my momentum, discipline and make me lazy. Therefore, the only reason why I would take a break is if I’m sick or injured.
To grow bigger muscle you need to eat more, period. If you do not eat more, you will not grow.
- Doing intense and focused muscle building exercise requires more energy than playing Minecraft.
- In between each session, even while you’re sleeping, your body will be busy recovering and building muscle. This needs more energy and more building blocks for that too.
- Your body will never build muscle that cannot be fed and maintained afterward. When you will be bigger, you will need more energy. You need to have what is required to maintain this future state in the first place.
Aim to gain around 1pound a month. More than and you will get too fat, when you get too fat your testosterone goes down and you need plenty of testosterone to build muscle.
Also, eat real good food. Classic old school dinner like your granny used to cook would be perfect. A nice piece of meat or fish, some good carbs like potato or rice and some veggie on the side. Do not trim the fat from your meat, you need the fat too.
Once a year you can take a few weeks, to burn some fat by reducing slightly the amount of food you eat while continuing your program at the same intensity.
That is realistic. If you want more than that, you will need anabolic steroids, and no, supplement won’t help you to cheat this reality.
Be patient, it takes time.
Building muscle mass is not something you will do during a summertime, it will take years of commitment. If you’re able to gain 9 real pounds of muscle a year, means it’s gonna take a good 3 to 4 years before you get close to your potential.
However, that an ideal scenario, in reality, shit append. Therefore, give yourself a good 5 years before you get your dream body.
Now, do not be a loser, already thinking: OMG that is way too long!
In life, nothing great is done in a month. Whether you are looking for a higher level of knowledge, to build a business, to learn to play an instrument like a god or to build yourself a glorious Spartan body, it will take time.
Get your mind straight about that!
However, those years will go by fast and the first thing you’ll know, you’ll be in that 3% of the guys who have the best bodies.
